Great Weather and Great Fishing

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

The past couple of weeks here in upstate NY, The weather has been unreal for October. Warm days and cool nights bright sun and Excellent fishing. We have had very little rain but its raining now which means one thing. MORE FISH. If we get the expected amount of rainfall, The fishing in the area tributaries will heat up fast. Fishing conditions can change drastically over night. I mean over night. With the increase in water flow, Fish that are still in the lake waiting too make there spawning migration will push up river at a feverish pace.

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

The salmon are moving through the river system from top too bottom. Many Large King's and Beautiful Coho's are running the area trib's at this time. The Steelhead are right behind them. We have caught several nice Steelhead over the past few days. Brown trout are starting too show up as well. The trout are more abundant in the lower section of the salmon river while a good number of salmon are up stream. If you are considering a trip too the salmon river I would say the next few days will be very good. By the coming weekend the steelhead should really start making a big push. I have sunday still open and several good dates the remainder of October.

River Season in full swing Early goose Season closes with a bang

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

Well the Lake Charter boat is put away. Leaves are turning too full Autumn Colors and the area tributaries are full of salmon and trout. After the rain we had on Wednesday night the rivers are in full swing. Some trying times prior too the rain, but still the best time for a trip on the local tributaries. Dan Paquette brought a group of friends along for some time on the water. First timers but experienced anglers. Several fish caught and many more hook ups. The whole gang had a great time and I think they will be back.

Early goose season found us once again hidden in a corn field awaiting the first birds to show up. Well we had very limited numbers this year due partly to the warm weather and the corn crops not being cut. But we did managed too pull down a few good days afield. Regular goose season starts on the 22nd of October. Today the sky was full of migrating geese. I believe alot of snow geese came south with the honkers. Should be a good regular season. I have a few dates open the first week if your interested.

The salmon fishing in the area is in full swing. Hurricane Irene Brought us some rain and wind and held us from our daily fishing activity. Now we are bac at it catching big Kings and some bonus trout. The fishing this season has been great. I really can't believe how good its been. The trout fishing has been good ,even this late in the season. The salmon are here in good numbers and not far from shore.

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

Some of my regular clients have had excellent days on the lake. Jim Haus From PA. had an excellent trip and his son Sean caught a few nice fish even at his young age. Kevin Dorr brought a group back this year and they too had an excellent trip. Mike and Brian Breslend had two great trips. Plenty of action on there outing.

We are having our best results in 100-150 fow from the Plant too the south dune. Trolling Spin Doctors in White and Green as well as some chrome. Atomik b-fly, Live Lime mirage or pro-am have been good The hammer fly has been very good as well. Divers are working as well. Due too boat traffic we haven't been pullin much copper. I suggest staying away from the traffic if you intend on pullin copper as it might cause a few tense moments.

Kings Are Here and Giant Atlantics

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

The fishing over the past few days has really picked up.The King's followed the wind right back into the bay. The action inside has been deep but the offshore action is much higher in the water column. Mixed in with the King's are some nice steelhead and The beautiful Landlock That Cathy Brochu caught while fishing with us on Augst 13th.

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

The fish was caught using a Green Dolphin Stinger flasher trailing a Atommik TG fly on a custom 600 copper rig. Fish like this are rare but becoming more popular in the lake. While I trolled many hours on lake Champlain catching thousands of smaller salmon. Fish like this are a once in a lifetime. Cathy was wore out after reeling in this monster on the copper and while that was going on Donnie her husband was busy reeling in the kings that couldn't leave the other rods alone. This was Donnies 10th year fishing with me and he went home with a smile ear to ear.

The fishing for salmon will continue to pick up over the coming weeks. Large Adult salmon will be staging in the Mexico Bay area awaiting the fall migration up the area tributaries. Look in the deeper water 350-400 for good action using the Pro-Trolls and Spin Doctors in White Green or Chartruese and Chrome on Bright days. Sweat Pea , Pro Am , Green Crinkle, White flys are woring well Right now 500-600 copper is best and Divers out 325-375 are good. 150-180 fow has fish. Colder water should move back in bringing the salmon closer too shore.

Browns Still in Town Salmon Very Scattered

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

The fishing has been very good for trout while the salmon are very scattered in the area. Our best fishing has been close too home in 35-75 fow for trout. We have had several good days on salmon over the past week but the big concentrations aren't here as of yet.

Harold Darrow brought some family along for a trip on Lake Ontario. We had an excellent day fishing trout in the shallow water. Mainly using Spoons in green and silver provided to us by Dream Weaver in Michigan. Downriggers fished 35-55 feet down or Dipsey diver from Luhr Jensen in Black or green on 20lb AFW trolling wire has produced very good.

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

Jack Alseph Brought his son from Maryland and Good friend and Veteran Lake Ontario Angler Rich Wallace for a couple days of Fishing here with us. We had a great time fishing Browns and Managed to send the Group Home with 18 Great trout. Our leadcores did most of the work today as was temp was rising throughout the day. Most of our fish came on the 3 and 5 color lead cores. This action will continue over the next few week as the trout start too phase out and The big Kings move in.

We still Have a few limited dates open for you too get out and enjoy the action. Or if you can't get here in 2011 plan now for a 2012 trip. April is just around the corner and The spring Fishing will be here before you know it. River season is almost here. With the rain we recieved today I expect too see a few salmon in the Salmon river over the next few days. The big push will be late September. We have some excellent dates open the end of September for a river trip. Also goose season will be here in a couple weeks. I really thought it would never get here but its here already. Choices!

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

The past few weeks we have seen some very good fishing for salmon and Brown Trout. I know this sounds like a broken record but it's true. This year has been a very good year. Limit catches of salmon or trout with an occasional Steelhead or Atlantic mixed in. Steven Ballen brings a great crew every year and looks forward to some great fishing. Well great it was!! We started on trout due too the success we have had on trout. Well after catching several nice trout I decided it was time too make the move too deeper water for some salmon. We didn't have too go to far before we found our first one and then another and another and the story goes on. At trips end we had a very nice limit catch of trout and salmon.

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

Being on the lake everyday that mother nature lets us. It keeps us on top of whats happening in the area. I see things move around a bit, but being out on a regular basis keeps us on top of things. I think this is truely the best time of year too be on the lake. Very light boat traffic except for weekends, and choices!!! We can go deep for salmon Start shallow for Brown trout head offshore for steelhead. Thats what June andJuly are all about. CHOICES!!!!

2012 will be here soon. If you want too get in the schedule for an exciting trip too Lake Ontario. Call or e-mail to reserve your date for the 2012 season. Its a great gift or just a way to share some time with family or friends.

Goose season is just a month away. I have a couple days left in September for the early resident season. We have had an excellent nesting season and I expect large numbers of resident birds to be in the area. We have been seeing alot of birds on the river here. If thats a clue too whats going on in the northeast then I anticipate a very good year.

The river season is just around the corner as well. River trips are an excellent way to spend the day fishing trout and salmon on local tributaries in the area. We can accomadate groups of any size. The first couple weeks in october will be an excellent time too be here.

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

Dennis and Andrea Buck set a mark in there head. They kept it a secret from me the whole time they where here until it was achieved. Today they boated Number 100 keepable fish. They actually Kept score and told me we produced over 220 bites boated 6 lake trout which they don't count as they prefer too release all lakers They did however boat over 100 KINGS, BROWNS, STEELHEAD and ATLANTIC"S. What a vacation.!!!!!!!! They had favorable weather which is the case for mid July.

This is the story for July..Choices. We can start on trout move out for salmon. Start on salmon and stay on them, It really depends on weather and wind direction. They left it up to me too choose the target dependent on wind direction and we chose right everyday. They plan on fishing 14 days next year. They are coming bac in August for 6 more days. They love their fishing on Lake Ontario!!!!!

My 135 rigger was best today towing a white Green Dot pro-troll with a Shredded hammer and a green pro troll pulling a Custom Green Krinkle.. Blue Whale Silver strea was good as well. Sliders have done there damage over the past week. If you want extra fish run Cheaters or Sliders they pay off.

We still have several good days left this season. It's not too late to plan a trip. I ever have a Saturday open in August and Labor day is wide open for a long trip if you Prefer. Today was a bit bumpy we delayed the trip till 8:30 and with a short run to the fish we started by 9:00. With the lines set trolling down wind in the 3-5 foot seas the Brown Trout couldn't resist our Dreamweaver Spoons. So by 10:30 we had a very busy quick Limit catch of big fat football Browns. We continued to fish and catch and release several more nice trout too be caught another day. Right now we have choices. We can start on salmon move back in on trout later in the day. While fishing salmon in the deeper water the random steelhead or laer can be caught on most days.. Summer Brown Trout or Salmon We've got choice's

The Brown Trout fishing has finally set-up in Mexico Bay. We have had some excellent catches on recent trips out. Michigan Stingers and Dreamweaver spoons are top Producers on a daily basis. The new scotty HP riggers are working flawlessly. You would not believe the speed and durability. The Adujustability of the rod holders allow us to get the rods in the right positions. Leadcore is working as well with some weight added.

Dennis and Andrea Buck Made the decision to reduce the number of charters they take with me in August and Increase the number in July due too the choices they have this time of year. They love the summer Brown Trout fishing and can fish Salmon if they want and Mixed in are Lakers and Steelhead. Today the wind was a little brisk so we decided to hold off a bit and due too the wind enjoy a good breakfast and start later. We departed the dock at 8:35 and headed out to see what Lady O had to offer. It didn't take long but in about an hour we had a limit catch of fat healthy Brown Trout only a few miles from the river.

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

This time of year is usually the best time to target Brown Trout over Structure in the Mexico Bay area. I can't tell you how many times this story is repeated over the months of June and July. It's Option time, for sure. We can target Salmon,Steelhead or Lake trout over deeper water or Brown Trout n Steelhead over shallower water. Occasionally there will be some salmon mixed in with the trout in the shallow water which are a bonus while targeting Trout. To schedule a mid summer trip and avoid the crowds call or e-mail me to arrange a 2012 Mid Summer fishing trip. Their is also several derbies and fishing contests this time of year to participate in and have a chance to get your name in lights and a paycheck!!!! SALMON Fishing VERY GOOD !!!!!

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

The fishing here in the Mexico Bay area has been excellent over the past week. Salmon have invaded the area and are being caught from the north to the south and west. There has been several steelhead and brown trout mixed in as the bait in the area is plentiful. Vernon and his wife are on a trip through upstate NY stopped for an afternoon outting , They landed several nice salmon and a few lake trout. They traveled here from tennesse on there return trip from a vacation in Maine. Vernon told me " that catching these salmon was the highlight of there vacation".

Dennis and Andrea Buck from PA. are veterans too lake ontario. You may have seen there picture on my website several times with big fish and great catches. They are here for there week long fishing vacation and the fishing has been outta this world. Plenty of salmon for them and they will be targeting brown trout in the coming days. They love this time of the season for it's diversity.

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

150-300 fow between the plant and Catfish Creek has been my best the past two days. Green , White and Chartruese Pro-Trolls trailing Atommik flies ( HAMMER, B-fly, Green Krinkle) have been best fished 90-125 down. Luhr Jensen Dipsy Divers in Green and Black on a 2 setting with 240-280 feet of 20lb wire out. 400-450-500 copper has been producing as well. KINGS!!!! Daniel Fishing Team scores on summer silver

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

A regular client of mine and veteran too Lake Ontario inquired about a trip on the 4th of July if the salmon are around. It didn't take much too persuade his son Bob and son in law Steve to make a trip. Mark and his crew showed up on time and eager to tangle with some summer silver. Off the dock at 5 and headed for the fish. It didn't take long to get going as we didn't have all the rods in before we where in the game battling our first of 10 salmon to hit the deck. We ended the trip with a couple lakers some small salmon and a limit catch for the three guests aboard our charter boat.

Salmon ranging in size right now from 12-28 lbs are being caught on the eastern end of lake ontario from 135-350 fow using Spin Doctors trailing Atommik Flies in the Hammer pattern Green krinkle, b-fly and pro-am. White and green attractors are working well. Divers out 300-325 on a 2 setting and 450,500,550,600 copper working on days we run it. There are quite a few Steelhead and lake trout in the area as well. Brown trout seem too be a bit scattered but the area in front of the five stacks seems to be producing.

Fishing Shaping up NEW SCOTTY RIGGERS AWESOME

The fishing in the bay area and a little deeper is starting to turn into an excellent mixed bag fishery. Browns are still mainstay but daily salmon are moving into the area with already a 26.5 pound king coming into our marina. The browns are larger than normal this year, just look at the LOC derby leaderboard. When the thermocline gets solid here in the bay look for many big browns to hit the board. Daily we are seeing fish caught in the area up to 20 pounds. Gonna be a good year for local taxidermists!!!

Kings have showed up but not in large numbers but a welcome addition to our daily routine. In the next 2 weeks look for the numbers of salmon to increase. Lake trout are also being caught while targeting the other species. I have the following dates open:

July 4,5,6,8 13pm,`7pm,18pm,19pm,20pm,21,25,26,27am,
August 1pm,2pm,3,4,9pm,10pm,11pm,17pm,24,25am,31pm,

I am currently taking reservations for the upcoming early resident goose season. Season start September 1 and continues till the 25th of september. Fishing continues to be excellent!!!!

The fishing continues to be good . June has been producing some great Brown Trout to 16 lbs. A random salmon has been caught and a steelhead and a few lake trout mixed in. The bay is loaded with bait right now which should attract some hungry salmon in the near future.

Most of the action is coming from our Brand New SCOTTY HP downriggers. Talk about a great rigger. These things are super fast and loaded with new features. A big bonus is the lighted counter and the new stainless steel adjustable rod holders. Did I mention the speed of these new riggers. My retired Scotty's are fast but these things are really fast, like 300 feet per minute with a 15 lb. weight, Thats fast!!! Scotty has made some great changes to this rigger to keep me in the front end of technology. Thanks !!!

I have very few dates left for the 2011 season. I would suggest you call to arrange your trip asap. Whether it's a Lake charter or a guided river trip there isn't alot of time remaining for you to get your chance to join us on the lake or tributaries.

Goose season is just around the corner and already I am seeing more geese in the area than years past. Not sure why but we have quite a few non nesting geese in the area, more than i have seen before. with the corn going in late and the grass being harvested early we might be forced to hunt the green fields this fall in the early season. whichever it is we will be ready.

Mexico Bay Brown Trout Still Biting

The fishing in the Mexico Bay area continues to be good. It has slowed a bit but we are still producing limit catches everyday. With the recent rains and north wind things should be solid for a while. This is by far the best season we have seen in a long time. Shallow water close too shore and basically any place where we have some colored water and a degree or two on the warmer side . Put out your goto stuff and WHAM!!! Brown Trout. We have seen it slow this past week as the week went by as colder water filled the bay. Well where we had been slowed down but concentrated the browns in the warmer dirty water.

Rapala's, Smithwicks, Thundersticks in Black / Silver or Firetiger. Michigan Stingers in Micheal Jackson, Dirty White Boy, Goby, Alewive, Perch have been good. we are fishing shallow 4-7 fow to stay in the turbid water and thats where they are hiding. I have a few days left in May, and July for some great brown trout action. This fishing will continue for well into the end of july. There are a few spots left in June but very limited openings.

August and September will bring the giant KINGS. They will be returning too get ready for there spawning run up the tributaries. I book trips for that time of year 2 years in advance. That should give you a heads up on how in demand these dates are. I suggest you plan now for a fall trip for kings.

Early May Brown Trout Fishing Action

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

The fishing this season has been nothing but amazing!!!! we continue to have great days on the water with limit cathes on every trip. What a blessing!!!! I can't tell you how much everyone has enjoyed the spring of 2011. The fishing is just down right unbelieveable day in day out. Haven't had to run far the water has cooperated, little we at times due too rain but we are truely enjoying the fishing.

Redline Sportfishing Charters - Atlantic Salmon

Jim and Huey spent a couple days with us over the past week experiencing some great fishing with double digit days. Jim landed a beautiful 13 pound Atlantic Salmon which is rare too saw the least. Look for several big Atlantics to be caught over the coming months. We are seeing more and more of them every year. They also caught a pile of Browns a few cohos and a nice Rainbow Trout. Walter Farrington came with his crew from New Hampshire and had 2 very good days landing some great Browns. Double Digit days on there two trips as well.

Mainly a stick bait bit but, The Stinger Dive Bombs from Advanced tackle have been working very good as well pullin Stinger Frogs and Micheal Jacksons. 125 on the board rods and 60 on the Dive Bombs. Keep your speed at around 2-2.2 sog and fish the colored water in 6-15 fow.

Look for things too continue on this trend right into late may and june before the Browns set up off shore in there noemal summering area. When we should have a steady diet of kings in the neighborhood. The bait is here so I suspect there are salmon around, Just haven't really tried for them yet but we will soon.

I do still have some days open in later May for early season trout trips. The weather will be warmer and the fishing should still be hot. July is just around the corner so look for some outstanding fishing in the area when the Browns Set up. Very limited dates left in July. But some good dates if you are interested.

All I can say is IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER. The Brown Trout fishing as of lately has been simply amazing. Today we had over 80 hits and boated an 18 fish limit in the morning and did a 6 fish limit in the afternoon. This is the time of year when catch and release fishing can be done with no harm too the fish.

Its was a mix of Black and siver Smithwicks and OJ michigan stinger spoons doing all the work. 125 back on the boards and a slow troll 2.2 sog in 4-12 fow from snake creek too catfish. 2011 Brown Trout Season in Full Swing

Redline Sportfishing Charters

2011 season in full swing!!!! On Saturday I was supposed to be fishing the salmon river with the Miller group. Well the power co. decided to raise the water flow on friday too 4200 cfs. Not very safe conditions too be on the river. So with the lake boat in and ready too go we deceded to get out on the lake for some early season brown trout action even though the forecast wasn't the best. Well with hard east winds up to 30 knots i knew that the close shore fishing was going to be the plan. So we set out at 7:45 and made our way on to the lake. The Browns where sitting there just waiting for us to show up. Three rods in the water and I hear the infamous words FISH ON!!! thats how the rest of the trip went multiple doubles throughout the day and several nice trout came to the net. WE had an excellent landing ratio with 21 of 24 coming to the net. Great Trip Lots of laughs and a good time. Thanks guys!!!

The fishing reports have all been good so far. Some salmon have been caught lakers and steelhead as well. This is the time to get in on the action. No crowds and lots of near shore fishing. No run time as we are fishing within a mile of port. I have some good days left in late April and in May. The fishing will continue to be outstanding for the coming weeks as this is the tip of the iceberg as far as spring fishing goes.

Natural colored stick baits ( rapala, smithwicks,, Thundersticks) are doing the trick fish 80-100 feet off the boards in 6-12 fow. The colored water has been the best. Temps ranged from 44.3-45.7 depending on location. There are still alot of steelhead in the river and look for fishing to remain excellent for many weeks. We are still running float trips on the salmon river until May. Now is the best chance to book one of my remaining 2011 salmon dates in July August or September. There aren't many left. I have 8 days in july 6 in August and 9 in September. Thats why i say it's never too early too book a trip. I am taking reservations for 2012 right now. Don't miss out.

Goose hunting season is just around the corner. I have a few good dates left in the early season (September 1-25 ) call now for the best chance at reserving one of those dates The 18th to the 25 is by far the best week to be here for some great action.

SPRING HAS SPRUNG 2011

Well its been a long winter and its slowly turning into spring. Things are shaping up pretty good for another great season here on Lake Ontario and its tributaries. Work has begun on getting the boat in the river to start the spring season for Browns n Steelhead on the lake.

I did make it too several sportsman shows over the winter and saw many familar faces as several of my regular guests stopped to visit. Talking hunting and fishing over the winter with many of you was great. The river is at a very good flow right now and if we don't get to much rain it should remain that way for a while. There are plenty of steelhead around and the smaller creeks are fishing very good right now. It's a great way to welcome in spring, get out and walk the banks chasing the fish of spring STEELHEAD!!!

The lake boat is just waiting for the dock to be put in so we can tie up and get out too chase spring trout close too shore. Many of you have experienced the thrill of spring and enjoyed catching many nice Brown Trout in the spring. I am increasing my price this year by 20.00 to cover the increased fuel cost that we will be experiencing. I may have to increase it again over the summer if fuel continues to increase in cost.
