Salmon Season in Full Swing

Redline Sportfishing Charters - A days catch

The fishing in the eastern basin has been very good on a daily basis. Many days we are seeing limit catches of salmon; some weighing in at 32 pounds! There are fish from 60 to 160 feet of water. These hard fighting salmon will continue to stage for the fall migration up the tributaries. Many anglers are also catching very impressive steelhead. We have sent many of these hard fighters to the taxidermist in the past few weeks.

We are using chartruese, white, green and silver E-chips, as well as chrome and green spin doctors. The most productive flies have been the A-TOM-MIK hammer glow, mirage glow, pro-am and ultra green glow. Chartruese bends and A-TOM-MIK rattles tied 22" long on Seaguar fluorocarbon have been working the best, fished 55-85' down on the riggers and 150-220' on the wire divers.

We have been also been having great success using A-TOM-MIK .037 copper wire on Tekota 700 + 800 reels. What a blast! We have a few dates left in September. 315-591-5699

The Best Fishing Ever

Redline Sportfishing Charter July 21, 2007

The fishing in the eastern basin can't get any better than it is right now. We are catching limits of brown trout, salmon and steelhead with an occasional lake trout mixed in. The salmon are here in huge numbers and the brown trout have been fairly easy to target.

While e-chips and A-TOM-MIK flies have been real good, the hammer fly has been outstanding. Michigan stinger spoons in the YNBK, gator, wiggle and diehard have been great. For salmon and brown trout find the thermocline and fish around it. We have been in 90'-350' FOW fishing 85'-135' down and 270 - 350' on the wire divers. 400'-500'-550' of .037 copper have been producing as well. I have limited dates available as of now but call or email and I will let you know whats open. The fishing is better than you could imagine. Book your trip for 2008 now to get a prime date.

What do you want to fish?

Redline Sportfishing Charter - July 07

The fishing in the eastern basin is simply put AWESOME! Large numbers of both, salmon and trout are making Mexico Bay home. Everyday we are catching salmon to 25lbs and the brown trout fishing has been there when we wanted it. We are catching steel head up to 10 lbs every trip.

The best area has been from the Salmon River to the power plant in 100-170' FOW. The brown trout are at the thermocline intersect with the bottom. Salmon are coming 70-90' feet down. White E-chips with white A-TOM-MIK Flys or green E-chips and green krinkle flys have been best. The diehard, NBK or gator michigan stinger spoons have been good too. For browns the natural colors seem to work best.

If you want salmon and brown trout, now is the time. Call for one of my open dates in July to get in on this awesome summer fishing. 315-591-5699 or 802-343-5993

The Kings are here

Redline Sportfishing Charters

On Saturday 6.23.07 Dan, Glen and myself went out for a little morning fishing and found out that the kings are here in good numbers. We fished about two hours and landed 5 kings up to 22.1 pounds. That fish is in the top 20 in the summer LOC derby. Trolling 170-220' FOW off Catfish down 50-65' white chips, white flies and green chips green flies did the damage. Down speed 2.7 - 2.9. The brown trout are still biting and there have been some big ones caught recently. Troll from 40-80' FOW using michigan stinger spoons in the chicken wing, monkey puke and tuxedo patterns.

If anyone is looking for a salmon trip I have a few days left in August and several in July but things are filling up fast. Call now derby goes until July 15th.

Brown trout moving down

Redline Sportfishing Charters June 07

It's that time of year when we start to see the trout moving down in the water column. As the lake warms and the thermocline sets up the trout move down and set up on the structure in Mexico Bay. Which makes for some exciting days ahead. We are still seeing limit catches and the trout are putting on the pounds. They are gorging themselves on the bait and bulking up fast.

The steelhead fishing continues to be excellent and the salmon are starting to show up in larger numbers. Look for browns in 20-60' FOW, use michigan stingers and sutton spoons; tuxedos and lem/lime are best. We have one we call the trash can that has been awesome. Look for the salmon in 90-200' FOW, use e-chips and flys and mix in some spoons - white/blue and green/green have been good. Medium michigan stingers in the tuxedo, alewire and rosemaries baby have also been good.

The action continues....

Redline Sportfishing Charters May 07

The brown trout fishing continues to be very good. We are now entering the spring transition waiting for the thermocline to establish. The brown trout are moving from near shore to mid depth range. The deep water fishing for salmon and steelhead is starting to heat up. This is turning out to be a great year for steelhead on the lake. The brown trout are still taking stick baits and spoons in the shallower water and the steelhead and cohos are eating anything orange. Troll for these at a higher rate of speed; 2.8 - 3.4 mph and cover lots of water from the surface down to 40' seems best. The king s are taking spoons and attractor fly combos; white/blu and green/green have been good. Call now for good dates.
